In a recent interview with Geek Nerd Net (GNN), Death Metal Duck creators Justin Heggs (writer) and Cam Hayden (artist) discussed their upcoming graphic novel, set for release in Fall of 2026 through Black Panel Press.

The project first took flight in 2014 with a small print run of its debut issue. More than a decade later, Death Metal Duck is returning with three completed issues. It’s shaping up to be a wild and entertaining ride. After all, it’s hard to go wrong with ducks, especially when they’re part of a band called PUKE HAMMER.

During the discussion, Justin and Cam reflected on how the story and characters have evolved over time. Justin noted that the ten-year gap since he first wrote the series gave him fresh perspective. He called it “the perfect time” to revisit and expand on his earlier work. Justin also shared how his children’s discovery of his older comic Wolf Hands in spring 2024 reignited his passion for writing comics.

Cam, on the other hand, spoke about returning to the series with a decade of new artistic experience behind him. Having worked on multiple creator-owned projects since the original’s release, he decided to completely redraw the first issue. He talks about the reasons behind this decision, and the excitement behind jumping back into Death Metal Duck.

The full conversation offers deeper insight into the creative process behind the series. You can catch the complete interview on Geek Nerds Net.
